The meeting is being hosted by the Human Resources for Health Knowledge Hub (School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of New South Wales).

The meeting will provide an overview of current activities of specialists from the Australian and New Zealand Colleges in providing specialist clinical and other health services, including local capacity-building activities, in Pacific Island countries.  The meeting also aims to explore possibilities for contributions from members of specialist medical colleges which currently have minimal or no activities in this area.

Professor David Watters (RACS) will open proceedings, presenting on the activities of the Pacific Islands Program over the last 15 years.  Professor Watters will outline the services provided by multi-disciplinary medical teams that otherwise would not be available in developing island countries in the Pacific.  A report summarising present activities and possible future activities, supporting the provision and development of specialised services in Pacific Island countries will be a key output from the Consultation.

The session will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm on 1 December at the RACP Education Centre. It is a free event open to specialists. Lunch will be provided. RSVP required.
